EMP and the North Korean Nuclear Threat
« on: March 20, 2015, 08:46:48 PM »
North Korea stated yesterday that they now have the ability to launch nuclear weapons at the United States.

The attached report was released earlier this year and tends to validate that claim.  For scientific and engineering reasons, I had not put the man-made EMP threat very high on my list of prepper scenarios, but now I am giving it a second consideration.

With respect to natural EMP threats, after this week's Level 4 geomagnetic storm, which caused only one small power outage in Canada, I think that modern power grids are more-robust than previously believed.  But, with respect to a man-made EMP event, we are probably more vulnerable than in 1986 when the initial assessments were made.
