"Bone Broth" for ypur prepper supplies

I was NOT aware of this food source.  I suppose technically it is a food supplement, but the amount and type of nutrients it contains make it a natural for prepper long term storage.

Recipe for Bone Broth, is from this link:

http://www.lovingourguts.com/dehydrated-broth/

Note that the process calls for using a dehydrator and a good grinding mill, but also advises that there are work-arounds if you don't have access to either tool.  I use a small coffee grinder (electric, but manual works just as well) to reduce the chips of dehydrated broth to powder.

DO NOTE that the fats rendered from the bones must be removed, as totally as possible, which is fairly easy if you have a cool space to let the broth set and separate.  If you refrig is not working, then it will work in a cooler or even in a cold creek full of water.

This can also be done (perhaps better) using a pressure cooker to cook the bones.  Much of the nutrients are released from the bone matrix and this must be broken down during cooking.

Dehydrating of the de-fatted broth is SLOW, even on higher heat setting, so be prepared (pun not intended) to wait until it is done.

Finally, note the commend that this stuff is NOT the most flavorful thing you can stock, but it blends well into other dishes without losing any of its value.  So mix it into soups or casseroles if you find the re-constituted broth to be less-than-tasty when you drink it straight...
