Dummm, Da Dum Dum (Think Dragnet)

This is the city, Sparks, Nevada.

Lots of people live here, good people with good attitudes. They go to work. They go to school. They go to the store. They are young, old, or in between. When trouble comes, they help their neighbors.

Where did they learn to do that?

Well, from their moms, of course, and at the CERT Academy and the Sparks CERT team meetings and drills. So, if you have a free hour every couple of months or have free time every day, you can be part of a team that is learning to help, have fun, and contribute to our community. If you like knowing what to do with that fire extinguisher, your first aid kit, how to direct traffic, what to do in an earthquake or flood, and how to be prepared for what may come, we would like to meet you.
CERT academies are held from 6:00 PM — 9:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, and 9:00 AM — 4:00 PM on Saturday, on two consecutive weeks.

The next CERT Academy starts January 21st.

You do not need to volunteer after taking the training.  The training is free, volunteering is, well, voluntary.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as personal preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, participants can assist each other in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. Graduates of the academy who join as CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
