Prepper Radio Net Chat 04/12/23

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Hi Paul. I'm going to try using my Icom IC-229H tonight....

K7IN - Paul @K7IN 3d
Great, Ken. I think you will like it as it is very easy to use and has a very sensitive receiver.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Hello

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Hi JC

JC @JC 3d
Hi Idaho70!

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
About time you responded

David - K7DWW @k7dww 3d
Good even ing everyone

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Howdy David

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Hi everyone

David - K7DWW @k7dww 3d
What new radio Ken...

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
It's an ICOM IC-229H just added to my collection

David - K7DWW @k7dww 3d
Did you have a specific role or task for this radio

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Perhaps will be my base station since it has higher RF out

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Ken, you really believe in that saying "He who has the most toys when he dies wins." It is a rare week when you do not have a new gadget to play with.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Darn toooootin'

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
I only have 5 VHF radios. One has to go in for repair.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
That does not count handi-talkies

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
No wonder you need a commercial grade solar system, just to charge all your toys up.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
A perfect representation of Ken, our ultimate equipment tester. Boldly going where no amateur radio operator has gone before

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
I may have to request a different callsign for Prepper Field Day. N7P is reserved until the 7th of June by another operator and that's the first day I requested.

K7IN - Paul @K7IN 3d
It looks like he accidentally bumped the hyperspace lever with his elbow...

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Well...... I have been known to be a bit clumsy

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
When I was told that I could not take everything with me when I died, I decided I just was not going to go. So far, so good. Except for what was stolen. Ouch.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Hello all.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Hi Jerry

W7LTE @W7LTE 3d
Hi y'all!

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Hi Timothy

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
When we went into my storage room after checking with the facility management we found out they had not done anything. Went to see the police. They told us to cut the lock off, as they could not do it and if anything was missing to call them.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
That sucks

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Stuff was missing. Between $7,500 and $10,000 worth accumulated over 50 years.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Audio is low, Ken.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Audio extremely low with a lot of static

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
I lost the Icom, three antenna matchers, and other radio gear. Including the very expensive Hardigg storage case. All of my solar power system except the actual solar panel. 60AHr deep discharge battery, charge controller, cabling, power distribution box, a bunch of extra parts.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
That is a terrible loss Jerry.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Both the good tents, $850 each when new and a lot more than that now. A brand new 10x10 awning, the new enclosure for it, three four-person add-on rooms. I have to stop now. Too depressing.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Female dogs have to have more stamina and strength since they bear and care for the young.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
One the Airedales my dad's family had when he was a boy was broken to harness and often pulled a cart to carry groceries for the family.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Another one that we had when we were breeding and raising them in the late 60s seemed to love to carry a pack when we went camping. He would step right into the rig and let us get it strapped up. Of course, he always looked around during the process to make sure we did it properly. And let us know when we did not do it properly.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
I am sure Ken had a lot of good info if I could have heard it.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Kilo Seven Kilo Kilo X-ray checking in from Winnemucca via chat.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Yeah. I missed quite a little bit of it, too.

JC @JC 3d
It was difficult for me to understand as well

W7LTE @W7LTE 3d
I was at my mom's house the other day and I saw my dog getting ready to chase the cat. I grabbed his collar just as he took off and he dragged me and the full recliner couch about ten feet. Easily 500lbs dead weight and he didn't struggle the slightest.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Along with German shepherds and a couple more breeds, Airedales were one of the most revered and respected war dogs during WW I, and into WW II. They were couriers, guards, trackers, and so on, and more than once rescued injured soldiers, sometimes dragging them for pretty long distances. Some even laid on top of wounded soldiers to protect them from enemy fire.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
It can be very surprising how much they can pull when they want to.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
That same Airedale that was in my father's family dove into a drainage ditch across the street from their house to pull out kids that had fallen in or simply got into trouble swimming in it. A couple of times they rescued kids during heavy rains when the ditch was running full banks and fast current.

JC @JC 3d
Wish my cat could help this much!

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Bob can get the net from Mt. Rose. He lives closer to Reno than I did in the Feather River Canyon.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Remember Ken said dogs do as much as they want. Cats never want to do anything except eat and sleep.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
There is an excellent pet First-aid supply company there either in Reno or just outside. They have excellent products, fantastic information, and are great people, period. I will have to look up the name, but I will post it on the nnpg.net website forum. Along with my version of animal prep supplies, animal medical kits, and veterinary supplies. Part of my Home Only-Aid Medical kit.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Cats also like to aggravate every other living being in the known universe, just for fun.

W7LTE @W7LTE 3d
My cat eats bugs. That's pretty much the extent of his usefulness.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
That's for sure! I have lived with cats too.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Got that right.

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Good night all.

David - K7DWW @k7dww 3d
Tiger is going to become a working dog!

David - K7DWW @k7dww 3d
Night everyone

K7KKX - Jerry D Young @K7KKX 3d
Sweet.

Idaho70 @Idaho70 3d
Time to put the chickens to bed before a bear decides to visit them. Night all.

K7KBJ @kjuenke 3d
Good night
