a friend of mine makes his own bio-deisel. It's pretty much a full time hobby. Lots of work but can be done.
8:28:03 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
You need a lot of cooking oil to make bio-diesel, right?
8:29:14 PM
Ken K7KBJ
He uses cooking oil and a bunch of other things food related. It's kind of like a still to make booze

These guys have the best price on Wavian NATO cans. They are made in Latvia. They are made (presumably) at sea level, shipped by ocean to the east coast and then shipped overland to us here at 4500' above sea level. When I opened mine for the first time the all BURPED hugely blowing the cap wide open. Point being they made that whole trip with out leaking.

Nearly every Seller of Jerry Cans sell them individually with a spout, usually a CARB spout (which are awful) so they are expensive, like $80.00 a can. British Atlantic/ rover parts sells them without spouts for as little as $40.00 so you can buy a quantity with having paid for way more spouts than you need. also first time buyers get a 10% discount

From Greg, N7SAX.....
Atlantic British who has the best price on NATO Jerry Cans has a Labor Day Weekend free freight deal through 9/4 on orders of $199 or more which lands the 5 gal / 20 liter cans at about $43.00 each which is the best deal anywhere on The best fuel container.
 https://www.roverparts.com/Parts/GJC20K2

They also have two smaller size versions.

If you are interested in acting on this and you want any direction/opinion on spouts, carriers, etc. you can call me now or over the weekend at (775) 412-3900.

Of more long range interest, Safety Siphon will offer us a Group Buy on their siphons which are the Original, 100% American made and Food Grade. Many Wineries use them so they are good for fuel or water (or wine LOL) I have multiple units, one that stays with the vehicle for fuel, a couple at home for fuel and water, etc.
  • 100% Pure Lead Free Copper Pump With Glass Ball And Stainless Steel Spring
  • High Quality 100% Virgin Grade PVC Tubing, Good For Fuel, FDA Sanctioned Food Grade
This is the ORIGINAL, the Chinese knock-offs are copper plated, not spark-safe for fuel transfer and not Food-Grade (even if they say they are).

My recommendation is the 10' 3/4" ID unit, it is tight, but it will fit into a Automobile GAS inlet and transfers almost twice as fast (6 gal/min) as the 1/2" model (3.5 gal/min).

Every Household should have at least two, one for water and one for fuel.

Retail price on the Safety Siphon website is $25 plus freight, Amazon price is $22.75 with free freight to Prime members.

We could also offer this Group Buy to the entire SNARS membership and get the price down even further...

We can get the following prices at the respective quantities:

 10    $18.00/ea
 25    $15.00/ea
 100  $13.00/ea
 200  $12.00/ea
 Plus Freight Charge

Put me down for two of the syphons, Ken.

I would look closely at the Jerry Cans in the Rover Parts link. The ones that come up are made by Valpro. Stated as made to European military and NATO specifications. The note in the description states that they ARE NOT legal for fuel.

The Wavian cans ( https://wavianusa.com/ ) are
EPA, CARB and DOT approved and OSHA Compliant. More expensive, however. Always shop around, and check shipping charges.

Just my opinion.

Hi Jerry,

They are not "legal" (in all 50 States) for fuel because they do not come with CARB nozzles.  They are legal in Nevada and they are legal in CA if you have a CARB nozzle.

They are Wavian Cans, you can call to make sure: 800-533-2210

My mistake. I stand corrected. Thank you for catching that.

I did find the usually accepted color code for fuel storage containers.

Gasoline: Red
Diesel: Yellow
Kerosene: Blue
Combustible Oils: Green

Water:
As far as I can find so far there is no specific color code for water containers. However, it is important that any container, no matter what the color, be fully opaque. No light can penetrate. Metal and wood generally are fine. But the various polymers can be problematic. The container must be made opaque either by special treatment of the container material, the material coloring agent is part of the material, or a coating is applied to the container to make it fully opaque.

Many colors, even 'dark' colors, may look totally opaque from the outside. But check in good sun by looking through an opening in the container, shielding the light from the opening, to check for any light penetration at all. If there is any, algae will grow in the tank if it is in the sun. This includes some containers that look very dark on the outside.

Just my opinion.

Jerry

Sure Jerry, no problem.  I have a number of these cans, they are the real deal.  Check these videos out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydIw2cj0lrQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuie9ZDWL1M

Do you know there are 3 places you can buy 87 octane 0-Ethanol gas in town year-round at reasonable prices?

Check this site out:
https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NV

Sierra Fuel is the cheapest, open M-F, 8-5 closed on the lunch hour. Old School place.
At the two Maverik stations notice 0-Ethanol is marked in Blue on the marquis and the pumps.

You're welcome Buddy.

My 1999 & 2017 Toyota 4Runners run great on it.

Of course you know it will store longer and it is less corrosive to your engine metal, fiber and rubber parts. There are about 5 Maverik stations around town but only 2 have it, Top of Sutro at McCarran and South Meadows, but it is about .25/gal cheaper at Sierra Fuel on the west side of Sutro 1/2 block south of 4th Street.

Jerry,

Check these Water Jerry Cans out, expensive but worth looking into.  I have a few, I just put a powerful flashlight to the exterior and no sign of light inside, tomorrow I'll check it in direct sunlight... I'll update you.
