I dont know, i see self reliance and self sustaining as off grid, and totally self sufficient without the need of anything from the world. I guess there are broader instances to consider.

My experience with Burning Man is most aren’t any more suffice than someone camping for a few days. The attendees aren’t able to handle any type of complication.

Jason, you may be right, even though the staff at BM try hard to get them to do better.
I have never been there
8:39:25 PM

I’m sure they do. My experience is on the medical side and things we were called for were pretty basic. Plus add Alcohol, drugs and bad decisions and self sufficiency goes away.
8:39:25 PM
Glenda - KG7MZO
Ken, is it Jerry's battery or his mic key?

In my opinion the biggest barriers to self sufficiency is power(fuel), health(medical care), finally protein(meat etc)
Thanks everyone

Here is an article (a very long one with many details) that gives my thoughts on self-reliance and self-sufficiency. Their similarities and their differences as I see them.

Also included are my thoughts on what is required to achieve up to 95% self-sufficiency.

There are sections that have my thoughts on a prepper homestead or estate that lends itself to high levels of self-sufficiency. Included are construction ideas that help up the self-reliance and self-sufficiency for defending the place. And lastly, two really long lists of specifics for the estate/homestead, and the owner's house/mansion.

This is all geared toward being the core resource for a community, especially after a major event creates a massive die-off and the destruction of most of, if not all of, our modern infrastructure that makes current lifestyles possible.

It is not stated in the lists, but some of the very high-value transportation options are actually intended to allow international travel in order to procure certain items that simply are not available in the US, or are in minute quantities. My designs, while costly, are costly for features and capabilities, not gold plated faucets, marble floors, and fancy for fancy's sake.

Let me know what you think.

(Going to be interesting to see how many people actually look at it.)

I hope to catch up on several of the other articles and get them posted that I have been saying I would put up here. Soon, I hope.

Everything is just my opinion.

Most folks are happy being a part of the Great Shepherds Flock.
Some folks choose to be wolves and prey on the flock.
Some folks choose to defend the flock and confront the wolf.
