Article - Raw Milk Benefits vs. the Law

[EDIT] this article may be old enough that the stated claims on state-by-state legal issues may not be accurate...

Subtitle:
Where to Buy Raw Milk Legally or Why You Can’t at AllThis is a good, detailed, discussion of the Raw vs Pasteurized Milk controversy.

https://countrysidenetwork.com/daily/lifestyle/home-dairy/raw-milk-benefits-vs-the-law/

In prepper terms, you will need to choose in the event of a crisis which makes commercially processed milk unavailable.

Do note that you can pasteurize your own milk and aside from the current legality question, this will remain an option in a post-event world.

I'll also point out that this article makes a point of describing WHY we pasteurize milk.  Part of the problem is lactose intolerance in SOME people.  This leads to excess gas (insert joke here).  It can also result in more serious problems, for SOME people.

The other part of the problem is the presence of pathogens (germs for those from Rio Linda) in raw milk with certainly can cause serious medical issues  (read the article).

Do Note that hard cheese, aged more than 60 days, is claimed to reduce or eliminate the problem pathogens. YMMV.

Educate yourself on Milk.  The 'net is full of information, some true, some not so true... ::)

DO include documentation on milk processing in your prepper docs.  You might benefit, your offspring might benefit.

FYI, according to the author, Nevada has a ban on sale of raw milk...

Quote
States banning raw milk for human consumption include Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia. Rhode Island and Kentucky allow the sale of goat milk only, and by doctor’s prescription. Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia have no law regarding herdshares. Raw pet milk is legal within Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, and North Carolina.
