Shamelessly Plugging Survival and Austere Medicine: An Introduction

Now that we have the actual print copies available its time to update things. I'm sure everyone already knows that NNPG is hosting a download of the pdf version. The complete download site list is below, along with the URL for the actual published versions. Just in case you are vacationing in Europe and suddenly find the need for a fresh version to your laptop - that site is located out of Malta.

Survival and Austere Medicine: An Introduction 3rd Edition

Online version December 2017 -  Published version January 2018  -  ebook version to come yet

We now have a total of 5 working download sites distributing the free pdf version, representing Australia, the US, and Malta. The latter is courtesy of the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine, a group well worth checking out for advanced medical training of a unique nature. https://corom.org/

This book was written by the moderators of the Remote, Austere, Wilderness and Third World Medicine forum. This is the 3rd edition, some 12 years in the making. The book aims to equip preppers & survivalists with the basic medical knowledge to succeed in the event of a large-scale, long-term disaster.

A new author team that once again spans 3 continents – North America, Europe, and Down Under (Australia and associated areas): two doctors, a remote practice RN, a Physician’s Assistant, a Biomedical Technician, a veterinarian and a Paramedic/RN. The last edition was published at approximately 212 pages. This latest work comprises an estimated 606 pages of new, updated or expanded material.

This edition also greatly expands the use of illustrations, most of them in color. It includes a drug monograph appendix, information on maintaining and servicing medical equipment, austere mental health care, and much, much more.

For your library shelf – because once the grid goes down there may be no power for your computer - we also offer a print version that requires only eyesight and brainpower to access.
https://www.lulu.com/shop/search.ep?contributorId=1550817

There are 4 print versions to choose from: black and white - either softcover or hardcover (the economy versions), or color - either softcover or hardcover (the deluxe version with the most useful illustrations).

For comparison purposes download a free copy of the pdf version, and then decide if the illustrations should be in color for your purposes, or is black and white will suffice.

The book is offered free of any royalty payments to the authors so that we can keep the cost of acquiring it as low as possible. The only charges are the printing and mailing costs – period.

RR says: [We wish the cost of the color editions could be made to come down drastically but we have no control over the printing costs save to offer a B/W version, which unfortunately does not do some of the illustrations justice, rendering them almost useless for medical reference. There are ways around that though, like printing off the relevant pages from the pdf version and inserting them in the hard copy, so let your budget be your guide. Personally I am trying to come up with the bux to be able to donate hardcover color versions to some select libraries of my acquintance.]

Our incentive for writing this is simple: we believe in preparedness and having the tools at your disposal that may be called upon when the grid goes down. We are men and women with families ourselves, joined together to share our knowledge for the common good.

This article also recommends Survival and Austere Medicine, plus a number of other, free, medical books with download links and some additional not-free but worthwhile books.

https://survivalblog.com/letter-promoting-s-m/

Please drill down on the links.  Some of them do require that you accept a non-commercial distribution agreement, which is a one or two click process, but you know how to do this and it does NOT ask for your id...

Go now, drill down, DOWNLOAD the book Save Lives Save Limbs

I had just recently found a copy and was going to add it to my "have to pay money for" part of the "List of Med Books you may want" post I do.

Had heard of the book a couple of times but had never found a reasonable source.

NOW you can get it free.

The other list - I'm still working down but wow

Bro, you forgot the link  :o

I am one of the lucky (probably) few in the US who has a paper copy, and to get that I had to import 20 copies each of War Surgery, Field Hospital and Save Lives, Save Limbs. The printer is in Malaysia and to ensure we actually received the books we had to spend the bux for 'overnight' shipping. Overnight via Singapore that is. Complicated but we got them.

You WANT this book, trust me. The updated version of War Surgery can also be found online through Scribd, which charges for the download. I have the hard copy of the earlier version and it was well worth the money and bother to get it imported. From the prepper-surgeon standpoint those books should be considered your medical bibles. They are that good, that simplistic, that thorough. Husum et al don't rely on rely on the latest and greatest hi-tech drugs, machines and fancy techniques: they teach the proven basics for working out of the back of a deuce-and-a-half for your operating theater. SLSL is intended to teach village medics seriously advanced stuff including abdominal surgery and amputations. The authors have a proven track record and no few lives have been saved through their efforts at teaching itinerant third-worlders to be their own surgeons when necessary.
