Fast Wine Prep

Remember, even if you don't drink it yourself, it makes trade goods for barter.

This is the simplest process (that I know) for starting a small batch of wine.

http://fivegallonideas.com/1-minute-wine-recipe/

It assume store-bought fruit juice, so if you are forced to make your own juice, it will take longer...

This recipe also assume you have access to white sugar (sucrose), but honey can be used as well as other sugar sources.

Well if you really want bottom line cheap, you can try what have done:
1. Steam extract you fruite juice from what ever fruit you have or a mix of them.
2. Sterilize a gallon jug and run the steam sterilized juice into it.
3. When cooled to RT, add yeast. If you are not an aficionado, Bread yeast works.
4. Since bead yeast has a low alcohol tolerance (~3 to 6%), you don't need to much if any, added sugar.
5. You can make a simple air lock by using fairly heavy balloon over the jug mouth. You do need to release built up CO2 every so often though.
6. Does not keep like "real" wine with 18 to 24% alcohol but, once the yeast settles out, it is drinkable.

Nice instructions. Thanks

I'm not a wine "connoisseur" but knowing how to make a yeast based alcohol is a skill which could work in a PAW.

IMO, low quality (as compared to present day commercial) beer and country wine will have trade value and "some medicinal" value. Eventually, there will be more competition as resources improve and skill are honed.

Plan to "cheat" a little by having artificially sweetened Kool Aid or similar stored. Adds sweetness (that wont restart fermentation), flavor and color to your brew.
