DO NOTE the reader comments at the end of Part 1.  I'm not sure I agree with the comment about why an "advanced" civilization did not develop in North America soon after the last ice age.   I would suspect that we DID have large scale civilizations and there are multiple sites in this continent to support that.   I also disagree with the comment that "civilization" automatically implies taking the same path as have other groups of people.  You be the judge and do your own due diligence.

Part 3 discusses Irrigation and the use of plastic mulch (assuming you have access to plastic sheets).

I certainly found the article itself to have useful information and suggestions on making YOUR garden be self-sufficient.

Part 4 is the final part of this series.  It discusses "Permaculture", perennial crops and including animals as part of your hiomestead.
