With so much being said about the draught that is gripping so much of the West, I thought these facts that I ran across* might be of interest.  Enjoy!

   •   55% - 78% - Percentage of the human body that is made up of Water
   •   Gallons of water it takes to grow:
        o   Tomato            3.3 gal.
        o   Head of Broccoli      5.4 gal.
        o   One Slice of Bread    10 gal.
        o   One glass of cow’s milk    30 gal.
        o   One glass of soy milk       9 gal.
        o   One cup of coffee     37 gal.
        o   One Hamburger      634 gal.
   •   70% - The amount of the world’s fresh water used for agriculture
        o   90% - Amount in California
   •   1,320 – Gallons of water that go into producing a daily average American Diet
   •   39 Trillion Gallons – Amount of water Lake Tahoe holds.
        o   Enough to cover the state of California to a depth of 14.5”
   •   30 Billion – Number of disposable water bottles sold in the US each year
   •   The #1 Use of water by American individuals – Flushing the toilet\
   •   780 Million – The number of people in the world without access to clean water
   •   18,811 – The number of Nevada residents who rely on contaminated groundwater
        o   21 Million – The number of California residents who rely on contaminated groundwater
   •   100% of Truckee’s water comes from groundwater (from 1,000-foot wells). 
        o   The water is about 500 years old
   •   Most – of Reno-Sparks’ water comes from surface water (mostly from the Truckee River). 
        o   The water is about 1 day old.
   •   Half a Millennium – The last time California was this dry.
