This product will not be easy to replace in a post-event world, hence having some in stock makes sense.

WARNING:  This is a hygroscopic chemical, meaning it will absorb water from the air and become a soggy mess.  Keep it in tightly sealed containers...  Note that this property is on of the uses explained in the article.

Wet Calcium Chloride IS NOT BAD.  It can still be used and even carefully heated to drive out the moisture...
