I wish you could do one in the Chicago area, notice I did not say in Chicago.

Oh my goodness I just looked over and saw I am a Senior Member.  Shucks, people are using my age to define me again!

Jerry, be sure to have your full Nevada ID with you.  We'd hate to find out that you were deported by Califorians...  ::)

Dang, I worry about just getting in, due to my meds. That would be the only reason they would want to keep me, I am sure. Other than that, most are looking to kick me out, I suspect. I know some San Francisco (ians)(what is the plural?) people do not like Santa Claus. I got cursed out thoroughly one evening when I spent Christmas with one of my brothers and his family in a not-very-nice section of the city. Mostly just ignored, but some people have real issues...

Just my opinion.

San Franciscans is, I believe the plural.  And yes, there are more than one of them... ::)

I've been called "Santa Claus" here in Reno, but it was in a nice way...

Yep. Looking like Santa Claus can have many benefits.

Pretty young ladies sitting on your lap, telling you how 'good' they have been during the year, and asking for a Lamborghini for Christmas. (Seriously. Happened three times. Different women, but same car.)

Children insisting their parents pay for Santa Claus' dinner in a restaurant.

Many funny and rather nice occurrences and quite a few other perks, too.

The only downside is I never drink any 'adult beverage' around Christmas time when there are children around.

And, of course, getting cussed out by Californians with Santa issues.

Just my opinion.

7 years ago, from Sep to Dec work was such that I could not get away for a haircut/beard trim ( I was off Sun/Mon - when real barbershops are closed ).

SO, by the day after Thanksgiving I was a bit fuzzy.  My wife asked me to stop at Walmart to pick up a couple of items on the way home.  It was a brisk day and I had my red fleece jacket zipped up.

As I was walking thru WMart, a little boy came zooming around an end cap and when he saw me stopped and stared with a very surprised look.
I had 3 other children that visit ask me if I was Santa Claus.

SO I bought a red hat with the white fluff ball on the end and ...

7 years later, I am in over 100 pics with other folks children.  Don't know what's up but the last 3 years, each year, a not-unattractive 30's plus woman has asked to take a selfie with me.
I've had a lot of fun with it.

If you were to get an invite to do that in Austin and the funding was provided by them, would you come?

HQ and Flagship store of a specific company is in Austin, I think they might see this as a positive thing due to some bad publicity recently - Yeti.  ( From what I've seen, NRA carefully chose how to portray Yeti's promotional changes to put Yeti in a bad light and the NRA in a good one. )

IF you'd like to - let me know - I'll drop by the flagship store and talk with the manager. ( New territory for me - never been in the store )  The worst they could do is to say no.

I cannot afford to do it myself, so if someone (anyone lol) is willing to underwrite it, I would definitely consider it, with a highly probable yes answer.

Thank you, WolfBrother.

My thought is this would be a good way for Yeti to show their support for the outdoor community.
So my pitch is they'd be out airfare, cab, and meals/hotel

As in " Just heard that Yeti is hosting PAW fiction author Jerry D. Young at their Flagship store in Austin"

Might that put me in Dutch with the NRA and gun owners?

Just curious.

Perhaps it would be better to ask support from one or more of the Yeti(r) competitors.

Offer exhibition booths, perhaps a competition for best of breed... Longest lasting frozen goods, most fire resistant, bullet proofing techniques with a demonstration, pre-show, at a local range. Oh, and world renown PAW fiction author Jerry D. Young speaking with an on-stage background of piles of competitor coolers.

Jerry, how long can you speak without going hoarse?  How about multiple days?  A weekend event?

Said only partly in jest... Go Jerry!

lol

Actually being active and talking, demonstrating items, and such, just one full day of 5 to perhaps 7 hours. If lighter days, two at the most.

In jest:

I see you being introduced by the 'round voiced' announcer and then you climb out of an ice filled cooler on stage.

When your presentation is done, you get back in the cooler and stage hands cover you in crushed ice.

The announcer stating:  "Come back tomorrow when we will hear first hand testament about the effectiveness of our [insert brand name here] cooler.

That has to be worth your weight in gold to one of the Yeti competitors.

Remember, it's all about marketing!

I think rather you need to show up at the prepper expo in Springfield, MO in June. Bring lots of hard copies of your books though, and a fresh Sharpie for signing them with.

Unfortunately I don't think they are in the habit of paying speakers. Least ways they didn't offer to pay but would gladly accept me as a speaker, as they did Animaldoc - who spoke at the Tulsa Expo.

I am pretty much filled up in June. But I may try to make plans for next year. And I will be at PrepperCon in May.

I know I have to help market myself, but I really hate doing that kind of stuff. I just like to write the stories.

Just my opinion.
