Why Silicon Valley Billionaires are becoming preppers
« on: January 25, 2017, 07:22:10 AM »
When I first heard this topic, I thought it was just a matter of the rich seeing what is happening in our world and having the $$ to do something to prepare for it. Well... it is but not in the way I thought.

The link you provide is a nice short article, the gist of which is:

"...
According to Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, the prepper movement among tech-made billionaires is largely inspired by fear that artificial intelligence will one day displace so many jobs that there will be a revolt against those behind the technology.
..."

While my personal opinion of many of these people makes me want to get a torch and pitchfork to join the horde, I find it ironic that they fear the result of their own efforts...

These types of people are worth adding another line item to my threat analysis spreadsheet: "Deposed Wealthy" or "Formerly Wealthy"...

I don't put too high a risk factor on these people, but neither would I trust them after a TEOTWAWKI event.

This reminded me of a well-known Hollyweed producer who offered me the opportunity to be flown to PRK and train her staff in preparedness. I asked if she was planning on being there but she said she was too busy and the staff would have to take care of her with what I taught them. It would have been really good money but her attitude offended me so I declined the offer.

That "well-known Hollyweed producer" may be in for a surprise if she thinks her staff will take care of her after a major SHTF situation.  They may soon discover they just don't need her for anything (and their probably right).

Would not want any part of Hawaii in a long term SHTF situation. Without imported food, they can not hope to feed more than a fraction of their population.

I myself think the article's nothing more than a cover story because they have realized how fragile society/civilization is and if a shtf/ wrol hits, all their millions are worthless. And if they travel a lot/have homes else where, wouldn't surprise me they have shelters either built or being built.

A friend of mine owned/owns a business that builds shelters. A few years ago, she told me some of the rich who do have shelters... it was extensive.

I can see two factors which might be influencing this group to "prep"...

1)  They are scared of the changed political landscape after the election.

2)  They are aware of the very shaky foundation that their wealth (fiat dollars) is based upon.

We've just come out of 8 years of "Don't Worry, Be Happy" politics from Washington so the sudden change could be seriously rocking their boat,   Sorry for the deep metaphors...  I'd rather not be accused of generating "fake news" as is the currently popular way to get ones name on the bad list...

Who? Me? I didn't say that.  Check your sources.
