Article - 12 Fascinating Facts About Roosters

I've raised chickens and always had a pair of roosters.  They got along because there was a "pecking order" and they respected it.

In a post-event world, you will need roosters (plural) to keep your flock genetically diverse.  That means actively trading roosters and hens with other flocks.

We do the same thing in keeping 2 roosters. If they are from the same hatch, they will have developed a pecking order long before the are matchure. A good rooster will place himself in danger in order to buy time for his flock to get out of danger. I have seen this myself and it does often cost them their lives. A secondary rooster is a must especially in a SHTF flock.
