(upd 11/18/17) Article - A Stitch in Time

Unless we expect to be wearing animal hides and grass skirts, sewing is a Very necessary prepper skill.  Even animal hides will need some kind of stitching unless you plan on going cave-man and just draping them around you (think COLD, DRAFTY and unfashionable  ::) ...)

This article goes over, in good detail, what and why you need various sewing tools and skills.

It is multi-part and I will update this post as the other parts become available

part 1)  https://survivalblog.com/stitch-time-part-1-florida-mom/

part 2)  https://survivalblog.com/stitch-time-part-2-florida-mom/

Personally, I'd really like to have a treadle sewing machine.  Yes, they are available, used and refurbished.

They are available new, as well. Janome 712T. 10 stitches and button holes, plus several other things.

There are Amish made treadle cabinets, too.

Just my opinion.
