Northern Nevada CB?
« on: July 04, 2018, 01:01:37 PM »
Just wondering if anyone in Reno/Sparks would be interested in experimenting with CB as a comm platform.

I guess so. I don't here much trucker traffic anyway, either on base or HT hanging out along I80 trying to hear any activity on CB. Seems like it's pretty wide open around here.

If you ever hear MO777 or M O triple seven on any of the CB channels, especially on SSB, that will be me. (given someone else has not started using it since I last did)

I do intend to add one to the truck. Just do not know when. And to use it. I consider it a viable comms tool.

Just my opinion.

I often hear people say that CB on't be a viable form of comms because "everybody has one". That may have been true at one time but it is far from the case now. Rufus and all of his ancestors had one.  There is a Galaxy 959  CB/SSB  with a Wilson 5000 antenna. 2 Motorola 750 FRS/GMRS, 2 Baofeng UV-82 with various ways to power them and a B-Tech 50 watt 2 meter/ 70cm mobile unit, There is also an Alpine AM/FM/CD/XM radio that may or may not receive depending on the disaster.

PS
When I was still actively involved in public safety in Utah, The radio tree also contained a Motorola UHF with police/public safety freqs and a charging recepticle for the 800mz Motorola hand held since we were being forced onto those freqs by the Feds and a trunk tracking scanner.
