I agree with Glenda, I don't want to be under the control of some gov. agency or aid group.

I grew up in Kansas. We have underground storm cellars. I still remember as a teenager being woke up at just about anytime in the night and headed down to the cellar. Once a month it was my job to make sure that the light was not burned out. If it was I changed the bulb. If we were low on bulbs I let my dad know so he could get more. We too save milk jugs to fill with water. I usually brought those up and dumped them out and refilled them. We really did not have any food because we would never be down there that long. I remember going to the cellar for mostly high winds. We would have 100 mph winds which was just as bad or worse than a tornado.

Julie, milk jugs are not recommended for water storage as the plastic breaks down. 2 liter soda bottles are the best

I grew up in Michigan. Bitter cold winters, seen many ice storms. Survived many tornadoes. My dad was a fireman and it was always scary whenever he had to respond to tornadoes.

In Colorado, I experienced one storm that dumped 20 feet of snow. It snowed 24 hours a day for 2 straight weeks!

I actually got snowed out of home during that storm. The pass was closed for over 2 days and I couldn't get home. Had to bunk at friends homes.
