Glenda is doing the opening script
Too many people die from sanitation problems and sickness in the wake of a natural disaster
The is so much we can learn from this and how to protect ourselves
Poor sanitation leads to poor health. Have a plan for both
We want to discuss some ideas for handling ourselves, keeping ourselves clean and sanitary
Have a plan for family members who have health problems
how will you handle medical equipment when the power is lost?
Hospitals can be very overwhelmed after a disaster
You could be on your own for awhile
First aid is crutial to cover the gap
for the long term, learn about herbal treatments and nutrition.
These are just a few quick thoughts from Glenda.
Check-ins coming now
8:06:50 PM
TWP
Get some good herbal books, both new and old versions
There are several links in the NNPG forum to herbal treatments, search on "herbal"

"bathroom" sanitation is so important and one of the hardest aspects to discuss.
People often don't want to discuss it. They find it easier to read about it
Talk about this and teach your family well before it becomes necessary in an emergency or disaster
Keep a chemical toilet just in case you cannot use the flush toilet
Empty it and clean it after each use. Make sure everyone knows how to use the chemicals and set it up
8:16:16 PM
TWP
Look up "camp bidet toilet" and how to make your own.
8:17:05 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
If you have ladies in your lives, make sure to have plenty of female hygiene supplies on hand.
If you don't know what to stock, ask someone. This is important
8:17:20 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Indeed
8:17:43 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
guys, carry some in your bag and vehicle
If you don't have it, she may not be able to find it somewhere else.
8:18:11 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I always have tampons. Many uses.
8:19:13 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
consider getting or making toilet paper substitutes. TP will eventually run out if the situation drags on
8:20:30 PM
TWP
TP substitute = Camp Bidet Toilet   A spray unit ala an garden spray unit.
8:20:37 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Johnny Carson had a famous joke about TP.... That joke put into people's minds, stores were stripped in days during a panic
babies have some very special sanitation needs to prepare for
In some cases, human waste might need to be stored before disposal.
Be sure to have a means to do so in a safe and sanitary manner
8:22:31 PM
TWP
Washable cloth diapers.  Can't have too many, plus other uses.
Have bleach in stock for laundry.
8:24:12 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
If you become miserable from catching a bug, what use will you be to your family?
Important question!
8:24:15 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I found bleach tabs at walmart. We've tryed em for laundry and they work ok. Gunna buy a few more.
8:24:53 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
He has a few dromidary bags with hoses for showering
stocks large wet-wipes for full body cleaning
8:25:33 PM
TWP
Keep bleach, either liquid or powder, in non-metal airtight containers, away from metal.
8:25:48 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
feeling clean and refreshed is priceless in times of emergency or disaster
Learn how to do laundry prepper style
See this link:  http://nnpg.net/May_28_14_radio.shtml
If you can stay healthy you will be far above what most others will be because so many people will not keep up on sanitation and will become ill.
Jerry has some opinions about health he won't discuss here but will post onto nnpg.net
He suggests we do not miss out on reading that post.
Try to find substitutes for any meds you must take. Talk to your doctor about getting more than the usual amount of medication.
There are herbals, essential oils and much more above his ability to discuss.
Do some research and talk to your medical pros
When you put together a trauma kit, keep in mind you  cannot have too much.
Most kits are very lacking
Keep medical supplies somewhere other than in the bathroom.
There is too much moisture in a bathroom and that can destroy your medical or trauma kit.
Jerry is done

Josh K7ZIM
Thanks jerry!
8:34:19 PM
TWP
Please tell Jerry; Thanks.
8:34:54 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Glenda is thanking him for mentioning the feminine hygiene needs.
Do your research about herbals and essential oils NOW. be prepared
Don't buy books and then put them on the shelf.
It's great to have a nice prepper library but research and practice now.
Get proficient now. Don't wait and think you will have that book to refer to later on.

Glenda reminds us bleach has a shelf life of about six months. Keep it rotated..
8:40:54 PM
TWP
Also, Chlorine bleach is corrosive, store it in glass or plastic and away from metal equipment, including your pack frame and cooking pots.
