First, read the linked article.
http://www.theorganicprepper.ca/why-your-carefully-calculated-prepper-food-supply-may-not-be-enough-03162017Now ask yourself these questions:
1) How many calories per day do I eat now?
2) How many calories per day will my food stock supply (per person)?
3) Did you calculate based on your current calorie intake or your realistic intake in a crisis situation?
4) Do I have any safety margin if I must rely my food stores for longer than planned?
5) Beyond calorie count, does the food I have stored offer
Sufficient Nutrition? Not just calorie count.
6) Do my stores include
enough vitamins, minerals and fiber?
Unless you are doing strenuous labor, your base calorie intake is (roughly) 2000 calories per day (per person)
The recommendation is to add 50% (3000 calories per day) "just in case"...
You can find many different opinions on just the calorie count recommendations. Some will vary by gender, some by the type of labor being performed.
Your calculation should err on the side of caution and cause you to store more than you expect to really need... again, just in case...
Finally, I direct your attention to the
current reports (March 2017) from Venezuela. This is what happens when the food supply fails.
