A suggestion has been brought up to add a book club meeting to the group.  This thread is being added to measure interest and when and where is the best times to meet, as well as book suggestions.

I will also add the discussion that was started on a different thread.

The card games do help. If anyone wants to do a prep book get together similar to the way we do the card game, I would love to participate. And the books do not even have to be mine. lol  "Books that have helped get the prep movement into main stream would be good. Lights Out, One Second After, Alas Babylon, come to mind. Also, some of the prep manuals would be good to discuss the same way.

Just my opinion.

What book do you want to do first? Steve is fond of One Second After and might be interested. Panic In Year Zero or Lights Out, or one of my books would be fine, too. With my stories, I can e-mail anyone that wants a copy of the selected story so everyone can get a copy without cost.

Just a couple of thoughts:
Extend the card game night an hour and switch to the book.
Brunch 2nd or 3rd Sunday morning once a month. 10ish, for as long as we want to discuss the book. A casino buffet, a Denny's, etc.

A test run in August, and start in October if people want to pursue it.

Just my opinion.

Jerry, I like the brunch idea.  It works better for me as I don't like night-time bike trips.

The other problem (for me) is the present card game location.  It is very uphill for a bike trip.

Also, can you give us a list of your books?  Or a URL to find the list?

We like the idea of extending the Conflicted Card game and then have the book club discussion. With work, family and preparing for something in addition to reading an assigned book it is hard to add another day. We are willing to do anything to help make this work. As far as what we read I think Jerry may be the best person to pick the first book and we can down load it. After the first round we could talk about how and what we want to do the next time around.....What do others think of this suggestion.

The problem that I have with extending the card night is it is on school night and that would be running too late for Jasmine.  I like the idea of a Sunday brunch, maybe at a coffee house somewhere central.  I anticipate that a book club would be a smaller gathering.  While the weather is nice, we could also consider meeting in a park somewhere.

My thoughts as of the moment, but open to more suggestions

I would like to suggest a meeting so those that are interested can sit down together and hash out the details and perhaps a reading list.

I'd like to propose Sunday August 2nd at a Starbucks or maybe a centrally located park.

Cannot do the second. Got the Disaster Prep Group Meeting that day. Unless it is morning. That I could do, as long as we were done by 12:30pm.

I am beginning to think (Yeah. Surprise, I know.) that the book club might be better done online as a chat. Text if nothing else, but better with Skype. I do Skype chats regularly and they work very well. That way no one has to be out and about, we can access to the stories easily while we talk, and with the text box open in addition to the voice, we can exchange information, too, while others are speaking.

Here is a link to download Skype if you do not already have it:
http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/

I am open to using Messenger or another chat system, but think Skype is our best option. Anyone that wants to check out Skype, my Skype name is jerrydyoung

Let me know what you all think.

We have Skype but I would really like to meet as I sit in front of a computer working all day and it is not great for my eyes. However the majority rules.

By the way I would really like to read the book you mentioned if I can borrow it when someone else is finished with it.
