Yet one more deal breaker with this idea. Since I don't make enough to pay taxes, there would be no tax credit. That would make the system $246/month for 144 months. I guess I will need to save enough, after buying and installing a wood stove this year, to buy solar components. Like all my other projects, this will take time.
Russ

I'd rather go slow and not go into debt, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just keep moving on down the road and you'll get there.

Thanks Clay.   Did you get the controller and everything as a Harbor Freight kit?  Item #62443

Thinking maybe to set up something to run a Ham shack.

At the home I had back in Utah, Clay, I also went this route. Then a friend sent me an inverter and charge controller when he upgraded and I added solar panels found on eBay as I could and more golf cart batteries.

That's the kit I have. You could probably do better just buying panels and a charge controller sperately, but it works well enough.

Thats the kits i purchased for my off grid place and they have been pretty good the 45 watt rating is generous 30 watt being closer
and having 7 of those charge controllers included in kit was not an option so i have now got one 30 amp charge controler.

panels all seem good after nearly ten years and i just bought a kit whenever harbor freight had specials I think there is
cheaper ways to buy panels now but at the time it was a very good deal.

I have managed to break a few panels now and they still function.

I received this offer from Food4Patriots... and no, I have no connection with them except as an occasional customer. They are offering a multiple instructional step by step CD/Manual series on constructing and wind systems. At $97, their usual price, I would ignore the ad. At $10 it is doable. Information is good!
