This article (with pictures) shows how to hot-can real butter.

DO NOTE that the picture shows the butter being handled with bare hands. I think this is a risk unless you CAREFULLY wash your hands before doing this...
NOTE ALSO the storage life quoted: 3 years, which is a good thing.
