Title: Good News for 3D printer users - Generic Filament - Good Prices
Post by: TWP on May 31, 2017, 12:03:26 PM
For those who don't yet know, 3D printing using a plastic "wire" as the feed material to built objects in thee dimensions.

I think this is a good item to have in your "extended" prepper gear.  One caveat is that it requires a source of electric power, so plan on it.

The filament has been a weak point with 3D printing because of the proprietary and Expensive options supplied by the 3D printer makers (the business who make commercial 3D printers).

This has changed and now you can buy "generic" filament at much better prices:

There are a large number of pre-designed templates for various objects, available online.  You can also use CAD software to create your own templates.

Do some online research if you are unfamiliar with 3D printing.  It may be something that you will find useful in a PAW.

In a hypothetical PAW scenario, the filament may no be commercially available, but I expect a large amount of plastic material will be found in trash dumps.  This plastic (some types) may be molded into the filament feed stock.  Again, plan on it now, before the need may occur...
