Thank you Ken.

I am having to use my phone as a hotspot, so cannot post up the information I intend to at the moment. As soon as I get a wifi connection I will do so.

At the "request" of the Overseer (Hallowed be her name) this is copied from an ongoing thread in the members forums:

From the NNPG Radio Net discussion, this is one option for a quick (but expensive) shelter assembly for a long term location.

http://www.concretecanvas.com/

There are other manufactures around the world.

PRO's
Quick assembly (24 hours to habitable)
2 person operation
Can be buried under earthen cover after drying and waterproof coating
Can be painted
Most of the tools for assembly can be rented from the company

CON's
Expensive ($25,000 for the small size; 5m x 5.6m = 16.4ft x 18.4ft, 8ft center height )
Heavy, you will need a crane, forklift or front loader to move and install the rolled canvas
You need a water source, preferably sprayable, to soak the canvas and start the cure
Additional coating (paint or waterproofing) means other pieces of equipment  are needed

Another company offers their technology, but does not sell actual structures.  The want to support independent contractors around the world.  I have no idea how successful this will be or is at the present moment.

http://www.binishells.com/systems/systems4.html

They claim that the cost for a smaller shell is in the $3500 range but that will depend on the contractor who does the work.

These are inflatable molds which are then pumped and/or sprayed with cement.  There is a large amount of equipment needed for this operation and it is perhaps better suited for multiple buildings (think at a minimum, a homestead with external building like a barn, sheds etc).  This could be used to rapidly build a community of buildings.

VERY large buildings are possible with this technology (Stadium size etc.)

Don't forget this option when you consider shelter

Building Sod Houses, in pictures

http://www.askaprepper.com/build-dirt-cheap-sod-house-soddy/

You can build multi-room homes, but I'd stick with single level due to earthquake safety.

Find a DEEP sod growth, minimum four inches of root growth.  You can get by with less, but you will need to cut more sod blocks.  The sod cutting is labor intensive and special tools can make this faster and easier.

NOTE: The sod blocks are laid Upside Down, with the grass leaf side down...

More shelters (not needing sod) are covered in this thread:

Some additional thoughts on shelters, per the 11/2/16 NNPG Amateur Radio Net meeting. I will put up what I can during this session I have on the internet. I will probably have to add to it later.

Some basic information:

Shelter is a huge topic for preppers. It covers everything from the simplest debris shelter in the wilderness, to a full fledged prepper home with a fallout shelter/bunker.

In some cases it might just be the clothes on your back, though I will not go into that.

The primary function of any shelter is to help you maintain your core body temperature. By protecting you from wind, precipitation, the sun, cold temperatures, hot temperatures, and many other environmental effects. A shelter might also need to conceal you, protect you from animals or humans that might want to harm you, and many different types of human caused dangers. But do not forget some of the elements associated with shelter. In its very basic form, they do not apply. But in many forms, they do. Such as ventilation, heat, air conditioning, water supply, waste disposal, lighting, and many more.

So, in the post and some subsequent ones, I will present a variety of information on many different types of shelters.

David mentioned my Star Plates. These are formed metal plates to connect 2" lumber together in triangle shapes to create a five sided structure. The structures can be from just a few square feet for a dog house, up to just over 12 feet I diameter.

Well, I am having more problems. Cannot attach some files. I will try again next time.

Just my opinion.

Ideas for simple, quick shelters:

https://besurvival.com/guides/survival-shelter-basics

I've built some of these (snow caves and tarp A-Frame) and I'd like to try others.

This would make a good campout project, assuming that the area is suitable for the materials needed.

Most of these shelters do not need a high degree of skill, but practice will make it so much easier when your really Need to get shelter.  Don't wait until you read the "need" point...
