It might be by choice, due to dissatisfaction with the public school system.

Also consider a pandemic situation where schools become unsafe for a long time.

If you have school age children, this article has (IMO) some excellent advice on prepping for home schooling.

The author gives links to many resources for both curriculum material and classroom supplies.

DO NOTE the need to keep detailed records of what is taught, in case the school system takes exception or wants to penalize children for missing public school time.  Be prepared to document what your kids have done and have the records in a form which is suitable for presentation, perhaps in court...
