Hey Greg !
Topic tonight: It's time to review your bug-out routes for closures and modifications due to growth and congestion.

Hello All
8:03:16 PM
n7sax
Hi Rob
8:03:33 PM
AD7GW
Hey, how's everyone?
8:03:35 PM
Josh K7ZIM
In fallon, we have the base so i think we'll be locked down quick in the event of shtf. So not sure how that'll affect my routes. Cant really olan for that out here.
8:03:39 PM

Rob K9RVM
Good evening all
8:04:06 PM
TWO
Josh, do you have more than one route out of town?
8:04:44 PM
n7sax
There are very few routes out of town
8:05:07 PM
AD7GW
Need to be running to something, not running from something.
8:05:08 PM
Josh K7ZIM
There are 2 main roads in and out of town. Almost all roads connect to those 2.
8:05:19 PM
TWO
Basically I 80 east or west?
8:06:16 PM
JDY joined the channel
8:06:33 PM
AD7GW
One could get out via I-80, 431, 395/580, and some roads off of I-80 as well.
8:06:35 PM
n7sax
I just bought some legit NATO Jerry Cans at a pretty good price @ atlanticbritish.com at less than $50.00 a copy
8:06:38 PM
TWO
HI Jerry!
8:07:18 PM
JDY
On tablet. Hard to type. Will mostly listen.
8:08:06 PM
KG7NSV
My plan is to be out of town already, but I have several routes to the north and keep working off road vehicles.
8:08:24 PM
TWO
I can relate, I can't type straight tonight either.
8:08:27 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Theres ways out if you try hard enough, but we actually plan on bugging in for the start. Kinda go grey man and try to stay under the radar.
8:09:03 PM
TWO
Have we lost Glenda?
8:09:14 PM
KG7NSV
Couldn't agree more, Josh
8:09:43 PM
TWO
Nope, she's here.
8:09:50 PM
Rob K9RVM
Off road is my fallback plan but frankly my route is limited to where I would want to go. I really only have one main road so everything else is a major round about way to get there.
8:10:12 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Off road is definitely on the table for me
8:10:14 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I just hope to have enough time to gather my supplies and collect my comrades out here.
8:10:27 PM
n7sax
Henness Pass Road
8:10:51 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Henness Pass is not passable in the winter time
8:10:54 PM
TWO
Josh, that's where having a backup plan for the group makes sense.
8:11:00 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Tons of places to go out Henness Pass Road. That is some wonderful country. Love that drive!
8:11:08 PM
n7sax
Dog Valley Road hook-up
To 49
8:12:29 PM
TWO
Not sure I would want to go into California, but circumstances will dictate direction.
8:14:18 PM
n7sax
Agreed, but when it comes to bugging out, state laws that are unattractive may become irrelevant ...
8:15:22 PM
TWO
True, and I'm also concerned about running into traffic From Cali. "The Golden Horde"...
8:15:25 PM
n7sax
The Feather River Canyon is pretty attractive
8:15:46 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Cali has too many people that'll be looking for stuff to make it an immediate option, but say 9 to 12 months later it would be better.
8:15:58 PM
n7sax
The Smith Valley is also attractive
8:16:32 PM
TWO
I have several locations in Cali, having lived there and owned a mining claim. The question is, can I get there?
8:16:34 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Is there a nnpg plan?
8:16:57 PM
TWO
Josh, not to my knowledge.
We still informal
8:17:29 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Hmmm...strength in numbers.
8:18:01 PM
TWO
Yes, we need to talk about this among outselves
8:18:16 PM
Ken K7KBJ
The NNPG is an information source, not a closed group of people.
8:18:46 PM
TWO
thanks Ken
8:19:00 PM
Ken K7KBJ
It just doesn't make sense to have a "NNPG PLAN" since there are over a hundred people who have joined the forum.
8:18:57 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Ahhh makes sense.
8:19:01 PM
n7sax
A coordinated plan makes sense
the Alturas and Goose Lake area are also attractive
8:19:54 PM
KG7NSV
Glenda, N. Valleys is a hard one, 395, and N. Virginia, but Eagle Canyon to Chickadee works for you to.
8:20:28 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Wow! We're a good size group! Awesome!
Oops
8:20:55 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
That is definitely an option, a little out of my way but will do it if needed
8:20:55 PM
KG7NSV
I even found one the gets to Chickadee off of 7th.
8:21:12 PM
Ken K7KBJ
One must be mindful that travel across native american held lands could be closed by them at a moment's notice whether it's legal or not.
8:21:31 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Yes. I know of that one too. Also off of Leon in Sun Valley
8:21:53 PM
KG7NSV
I think off road, and only drive vehicles that can do it
8:21:58 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
And keeping an eye on the fact that tribal is now involved in the crossing
8:21:59 PM
TWO
Good point Ken, Need to stay west of the reservation.
8:22:46 PM
Rob K9RVM
The reservation land is a last resort for me. It's an option but really not a good one.
8:23:04 PM
n7sax
Standardization is important - Radios and otherwise
8:23:16 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
I can work my way around the tribal and still get to my house via BLM
8:23:58 PM
KG7NSV
Wow, Ken I can talk of hours on government closed roads.
8:24:17 PM
TWO
Beware of the dirt roads in heavy rain. Rob and I ran into this last fall.
Or sping
8:25:19 PM
Rob K9RVM
I keep a logging chain and a set of bolt cutters in the truck, along with a lock pick kit in the advent that I have to ultimately resort to the option of making my own way past locked gates and such.
8:25:24 PM
KG7NSV
Bigger tires, lighter weight works great on mud roads.
8:25:42 PM
Rob K9RVM
I sincerely hope I never have to get to that part of my plans.
8:26:05 PM
TWO
But, you have the option...
8:26:08 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Amen!
8:26:18 PM
n7sax
What about Fuel planning?
8:26:24 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Me too Rob
8:26:38 PM
KG7NSV
Yup, keep the option.
8:27:07 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Fuel planning is important unless you have Rob's truck, the rolling fuel depot !@
8:27:07 PM
TWO
Fuel is a tough call. Caches only work if they are on your route.
8:27:10 PM
Rob K9RVM
And TWP is right, we got into some heavy mud and wet roads and it was difficult to get through. We did it and it was a great experience to go through it but I'm still knocking mud from the undercarriage after that event.
8:27:52 PM
n7sax
Most don't
8:28:01 PM
KG7NSV
Never let your tanks go below 1/2 fuel, and keeps twice what you need at hone.
8:28:18 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Forest service roads have been mentioned also but in the winter time, these roads are not passable. Factor that into your plans
8:28:19 PM
Rob K9RVM
I cannot advocate the advantage of having extra fuel when traveling. Before my current truck I traveled with extra fuel cans and it really was a great advantage to have.
8:29:54 PM
n7sax
Fuel cans are becoming more difficult to obtain...
and more expensive
8:30:50 PM
TWO
PLus having space to store fuel at home. We're prevented because of an apartment.
8:31:46 PM
KG7NSV
Travel them in the winter now, because you'll learn how to if you need to. I've spent lots of time on these dirt roads and have found all kinds of trouble spots, but getting out of trouble in the wilds is best learned when you don't have too get out now.
8:31:48 PM
Ki7psk
N7sax visit your local atv dealer and get “race” fuel cans
8:31:50 PM
TWO
Rob, the river trail goes both directions and has access points close to you.
8:31:52 PM
Rob K9RVM
There will be a caravan of people coming to pick up Jerry if we ever have to evacuate. He'll have his pick of a dozen different vehicles to ride in I'm sure.
I know the trail intimately, we bike ride it quite a bit. But driving on it is another matter.
8:32:49 PM
n7sax
Thanks Ki7psk
I'm committed to the genuine 20 liter NATO Cans
8:33:40 PM
TWO
Rob, if you are pulling a trailer, that river trail might still be usable, it is wide enough.
8:34:49 PM
n7sax
i Have 4 for sale
8:35:09 PM
TWO
Rob, to your west, the access is next to the power transformers. To the East, the narrow point is under the overpass...
8:35:11 PM
AD7GW left the channel (quit)
8:35:44 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I really have to work on getting some fuel can holders on my FJ.
8:35:58 PM
Rob K9RVM
The river trail is difficult because how it's blocked off from vehicular traffic but the winch and heavy-duty steel bumper would be the way to make a path...although it's unlikely it would work out with how long my trailer is. It's impossible to make a tight turn when I'm hitched up.
A roof rack would go a long way for the FJ as well.
8:37:01 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Yes, a roof rack would be nice. I still kick myself for ordering my FJ without a roof rack. I'm a dork.
8:37:00 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
I love my cargo rack for my receiver hitch. Helps me carry a lot of additional gear
8:37:14 PM
n7sax
Ken, Roof or back door mounted?
8:37:19 PM
Rob K9RVM
Nawww....it can be added after market.
8:37:26 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I suppose I can find an aftermarket roof rack.
8:37:28 PM
TWO
Rob, yeah, the access to the river trail through the park is too sharp a turn, but the fence is also just a wooden picket...
8:37:37 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Come talk to me Ken. I can get you a deal
8:37:57 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I may get some after market bumpers and incorporate fuel can holders there.
Thanks Glenda. I will !
8:38:20 PM
n7sax
The Factory FJ Roof Rack is not particularly functional or of quality
8:38:50 PM
KG7NSV
River crossing, not what I want to do with a light vehicle. Crossed the Van Duzen once in a jeep. Almost floated to the Pacific.
8:38:56 PM
n7sax
Look at the Baja Rack, Gobi Rack and ARB
8:39:16 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
I love my Yakima
8:40:41 PM
n7sax
For the FJ I think the Baja Rack offers the best options, on my 4Runner I have the Gobi
I need a good antenna mount for my 4Runner
8:41:53 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Thanks !
8:41:49 PM
n7sax
Suggestions?
8:42:27 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I just have a mag mount for my FJ. I have not looked into anything further
8:43:08 PM
n7sax
Ken,
all of the makes I mentioned bolt in/on the factory rack connectors
8:44:22 PM
Rob K9RVM
Greg, this antenna has worked like a champ on multiple vehicles and multiple radios.

Thanks Rob
8:47:04 PM
Rob K9RVM
The local fire station is one of our main alternate locations to meet up at and plan our route from there. It's also the place we can leave notes on the building wall so we know what the others are doing if we can't catch up with each other.
8:50:16 PM
Josh K7ZIM

8:52:07 PM

8:52:34 PM
KG7NSV
I agree, I use the pig tail on my Jeep
