Hey Ken

Glenda, please check your email, I lost the list I sent to you and hope you still have it.

Barter, Trade items, skill set(s), precious metals all good, but how does "cash" help? in a catastrophic event as our "cash" has zero intrinsic value...
8:20:55 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Barter is king ! Glenda put on an awesome barter event. Watch our calendar for the next one. It is SO MUCH FUN !
8:21:17 PM
N7SAX
OK but Cash?
How does cash have any value in a cataclysmic event?
8:22:37 PM
twp
N7SAX, it depends on the situation post event. Fiat dollars may still be viewed as "money" and accepted for transactions.
8:22:52 PM
KG7MZO
TWP...I will get to my email when I have a chance
8:23:00 PM
N7SAX
I seriously dobt it
Our currency has NO BACKING
8:23:26 PM
KG7MZO
Bartering is a skill that I have been working. I can't wait to plan our next barter event
8:23:38 PM
twp
In a real PAW, cash will probably not be worth much, but metal coin may still be trade goods
8:23:51 PM
N7SAX
Barter is what is all about
intrinsic value for intrinsic value That is it
8:24:49 PM
twp
Prep for both a world wide event and local (short term events)
8:25:27 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I'd imagine there will be some people who will never lose the fantasy for cash.
8:25:28 PM
N7SAX
only Silver Coin
8:25:55 PM
twp
If only part of the country is effected, cash will have value.
8:26:10 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Good point, TWP.
8:26:27 PM
N7SAX
in a post apocalyptic event Cash = precious metal
8:26:55 PM
twp
Yes, the PAW scenario is where PM's will be king.
8:27:36 PM
N7SAX
PAW stands for what please?
Post Ap World?
8:27:52 PM
twp
copper pennies are trade goods
8:27:56 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I always wonder, putting aside the value of metals, what real good will they provide after TSHTF ?
I wonder how many people would accept it.
8:28:22 PM
twp
Post Apocalypse World
8:28:46 PM
N7SAX
Thanks that is what I thought
8:29:42 PM
twp
Metals are commodities which can be made into other items. Which is where the skill set is important
8:30:17 PM
N7SAX
Precious metals will only be interesting to those that have LARGE caches of materials well beyond their own requirements
it comes down to food, shelter, medicine
more of course
but gold has no utility
as compared to insulin
beans rice and bullets
fuel
8:32:01 PM
Ken K7KBJ
and cigarettes and coffee !
8:32:20 PM
N7SAX
those are secondary buddy
8:32:30 PM
KG7NSV
alcohol
8:33:01 PM
N7SAX
Socks and boots
8:33:10 PM
twp
Barter is the base for a recovering economy, but as recovery progresses, the need for a "money" will come back.
8:34:04 PM
N7SAX
seriously, there is no good plan to have our current currency and questionable benefit of gold and silver
8:34:59 PM
twp
Agreed, which is why you don't keep a LOT of "cash" in preps.
Just as you don't want a big pile of gold and silver. But some.
8:36:13 PM
KG7NSV
Yup, I agree with the guy on the radio
He sounds like a moonshiner
8:37:55 PM
N7SAX
Moonshine is a good trade item for those that have lot's of tangible goods
8:38:21 PM
KG7NSV
Don't forget the sterilization aspect of it too
8:38:58 PM
KG7MZO
There's a lot of ideas out there about bartering, but what I learned at our Barter event is the typical prepper barter lists are not accurate when it comes to real world bartering. I highly recommend coming to the next barter event to hone those skills.
8:39:12 PM

Here are some additional thoughts to those I voiced during the net meeting last night.

I want to reiterate that these are my ideas and opinions only. I am not any form of financial advisor or expert and cannot accept responsibility for anyone that might use any of these ideas. Financial matters are an individual and family matter. Always do your own due diligence research and decide for yourself if any given idea is suitable for you.

As with many of my posts, some of the lists are pick and choose lists and not a list of 'must have everything' items.

Some of the information has been posted before in piecemeal fashion.

If you have any questions about any of the information feel free to ask.

Just my opinion.
