How about another program on obtaining antibiotics, insulin and preserving such?
8:17:59 PM
TWP
Something to practice (perhaps not actually use) on one of our campouts - latrine digging, where, when and how.
N7SAX, check the forum, there's a recent thread on Insulin.
8:20:18 PM
Ken K7KBJ
N7SAX, we have to be careful about talking of obtaining things that usually require a prescription when we are on the air because we don't own the repeater system and we have to comply with the owner's policy.
We can chat all about it here, however.
8:20:44 PM
TWP
A barterable skill is making toilet paper.
Many states DO NOT require a prescription for Insulin purchase. Don't know our local law on this...
this is the list of state laws re Insulin purchase: http://www.isletsofhope.com/diabetes/state-law/state-prescription-laws.html
That list is ONLY for "older" insulin, not the synthetic "homologs" which are brand name specific. Read the linked page for more information.

Ken, good point, I understand. Very poignant though.
8:27:58 PM
Ken K7KBJ
Yep, we don't have any doctors here yet so we have to be careful about what we say!
8:30:59 PM
TWP
A doctor in the group would be a very good idea. Don't know how to connect with the right person...
8:33:13 PM
N7SAX
Why don't we ask for Doctors to identify themselves...
Dentists too.
Veterinarians too
8:35:04 PM

We have had a few present classes at meetings. Those were great!
8:36:13 PM

Ken, were they group members or only invited guest speakers?
8:37:35 PM

Ken, a potential topic for the future, Time Keeping. A good mechanical timepiece/watch that is not electric/battery powered. If we are deployed in a disaster and need to work together as a group in a coordinated mater we will ALL need Time Coordination...

Looking forward to your post Jerry.

I tend to cut/paste/edit stuff.  The attachment is such - the .mil manual Field Sanitation and Hygiene.   As a former Doc, part of my job was to do this so the manual is perfect for me.

If others have questions - please ask, I'll answer to the best of my ability.

A brief summary of the manual.

WASH YOUR NASTY BACKSIDE

Wash your hands before preparing food or eating.

Wash you eating stuff after.  If you find the cook has greasy pots - make the cook the official mine field clearer.

Dispose of waste (food, human, critter) properly.

Be sure such places are downstream from your water source or your coffee will taste funny.

IF YOU DON'T DO IT - you are subject to severe, dehydrating vomiting and Hershey squirts.

Most folks are happy being a part of the Great Shepherds Flock.
Some folks choose to be wolves and prey on the flock.
Some folks choose to defend the flock and confront the wolf.

I finally was able to get attachments to work, but not here. My ideas are in the General Forum:
