cannot say that is article is a comprehensive analysis of water filtering, purification, decontamination and processing. Please don't assume it will teach your everything you need to know about making potable water.
It should give you a good background in what is available, commercially.
DO learn the difference between simple filtering and purification. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
My advice is to also invest in a water analysis kit. These kits can test for metals (Arsenic, Lead, Cadmium etc.) and other kits can test for biological contaminants. The second kit is NOT something which may be done quickly and does require some training. Get that training.
A warning: simple boiling of water is NOT enough. Boiling will kill most bacteria and other microorganisms, but does not remove other types of contaminants. Consider using steam distillation PLUS filtering PLUS testing.
