DO NOTE that Aloe Vera is listed here.  Read the paragraphs for the specific part which is toxic...

I will suggest that HOW you harvest Aloe Vera gel has much to do with whether you get the toxic chemicals.  Learn how to do this.

Aloe Vera leaf contains a chemical which eases the process of bowel release by increasing the water level in the stool .

The inner skin has a yellow, bitter liquid called aloin which can be dried to create laxatives. Aloe contains compounds called anthraquinones that provide a powerful relief for constipation.
Both are toxic if ingested in large quantities causing vomiting, nausea, cramping and diarrhea. Like many powerful medicinal herbs, the must be taken with caution.
