I found this to be a good guide, particularly for the beginning gardener.

I disagree with some of the plants (corn) which are recommended, but much depends on you available space. Corn is a problem because it requires additional processing (nixtamilization (https://infogalactic.com/info/Nixtamalization)) to increase the nutrient value. Sure, you can grow it for the flavor, but in a post-event world, you will be growing for FOOD value.
