 Look as a general rule I will side with the police, again my opinion, but this is a little excessive every dog barks, unless it is highly trained and if it is a highly trained dog, then barking is the last thing the policeman needs to worried about.  Your mileage may vary, but really dogs do what dogs do.  I would not want a dog that would not bark and lunge at someone enter my home un invited.

   I say the following as a strong public safety advocate and supporter.I never saw this happen with any agency in my area but cops of one agency or another have made the death of the family dog shot number one for decades. Well, as I remember, some atf types just stomped smaller dogs to death.
