Tonight we will discuss Shelter
If you home is damaged have you prepared what to do while your home is being repaired?
We enjoy the outdoors but many things can go wrong when we are outside.
We need to learn how to prepare a shelter by using the materials on hand.
This is a critical survival skill

Good evening twp

K7DWW up first
The most likely thing we will deal with is earthquake.
We should have redundancy. He has tents, an RV and a large geo dome
When you are answering the question of shelter, just a tent is questionable due to summer heat.
One should have a backup
Must be prepared for a long period of needing alternate shelter
N7JDM next
Glenda wants a self contained 4WD van
That's top on her list and she thinks it will take a couple more years
Pre plan with contractor contact info. Make that part of your document binder
Last weekend John used a pop up structure with walls when we supported a bike race.
It was very spacious for him.
This is great for a group. Lots of head room.
10 ft x 10 ft
K7KBJ is next.
He doesn't have much to say.
Glenda says she has several tents but likes the idea of having head room.
8:13:54 PM
K9RVM - Rob
Head room is key Rescue Chicken.
8:14:04 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
There is a purpose to having a smaller tent at times.
My turn....
8:14:19 PM
K9RVM - Rob
You really have to take into account the amount of headroom you'll need.
Some people require substantially more headroom than others Rescue Chicken.
8:15:28 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
And make sure there's plenty of rope to lash it done.  With that much headroom, it may blow away
8:16:02 PM
K9RVM - Rob
When you have the amount of headroom necessary for Rescue Chicken, lashing lines really come in handy.
8:16:05 PM
twp
I recall the wind at Dogskin mountain...
8:17:03 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
I'm using tents primarily but currently working on getting my 5 x 8 ft utility trailer ready for shelter
I have to add a window and maybe some insulation.
Glenda is working on multiple ways to provide shelter and shade.
K9RVM next
earthquake is a big concern
how do we repair and prepare for damag?
Army life has helped him work with many different types of shelter
Some are comfortable but not in the long term
He has practiced with tent systems, sleeping bags, etc in his back yard
He keeps repair equipment and material on hand
His best fall back plan is the hotel
8:21:05 PM
Josh K7ZIM left the channel (timeout)
8:21:20 PM
twp
I'm betting that hotels will be filled in a large disaster.
8:21:38 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Glenda says have emergency funds to be able to get the hotel comfortably
make arrangements beforehand for sheltering with friends and family
8:22:08 PM
K9RVM - Rob
At our Prepper Radio Field Day we will have some examples of shelters set up for folks to look at and gain some ideas on how to put them together quickly and how they can serve you.
8:22:16 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Put hotel contact info into your document binder
Glenda will now ask for the second round of check ins.....
K7DWW
has a question
8:23:51 PM
K9RVM - Rob
Is it about the amount of headroom some people need?
8:23:57 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
What is the name of the pop up John used?
K7KBJ
The shelter was called the Easy Up
That was the last check in.
Glenda is wrapping up now
next week we will discuss power outage prep and other power needs
Good night all. Thank you Glenda.
8:27:04 PM

Ken;  Is there any discussion in SNARS about getting the relay feed reactivated to Broadcaastify?
8:27:13 PM
K9RVM - Rob
Thank you Glenda!
8:27:17 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
No, not yet.
The person who was doing that
Moved to Las Vegas
8:27:23 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Thank you everyone
8:27:28 PM
K9RVM - Rob

8:28:04 PM

8:28:27 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile

Yes, 24/7 is what I would provide
Just like it was before
8:29:20 PM
twp
Ok, I hope it works out.  The audio is very useful.
Not to mention it saves your fingers
Ok, I'm gone, Thanks Glenda and Ken
