How long will those seal-a-meal bags last?
8:14:22 PM
K9RVM - Rob
7 years max. if they are kept in the garage with heat and cold variances then the shelf life significantly drops down to only tow to three years.

Every time I do the fiscal fasting week I find myself craving salads and fresh vegetables.
Two weeks of that drill and I'd kill for a garden salad!

I love this book for soups and stews!

8:49:27 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
do soups and stews can well ?
8:49:42 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
There's a magazine called Taste of Home that I used to get.  All the recipes are submitted by readers and are mostly from the mid-West and farmer's wives.  Lots of great recipes
8:49:48 PM
K9RVM - Rob
In one of the seminars at PrepperCon, one of the doctors mentioned that vegans suffer from severe protein deficiency and find them to be sickly. They don't gain enough protein from beans.
8:49:50 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
depends on the soup/stew
dairy does not can
noodles do not can well - they can turn to mush if
not canned properly
8:50:33 PM
K9RVM - Rob
our research shows pork doesn't store well either.
beef and chicken do ok. vegetables do well but over time they get a bit mushy.
8:51:47 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
most can be canned, the rule of thumb is to process for the time required by the ingredient with the longest processing time
8:52:05 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Can I can german chocolate cake?
8:52:29 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Rob is correct - veg will get mushy, mostly because the meat requires the longest process time, much longer than the veggies
I would can the butter and learn to dutch oven bake for the long-term solution
8:53:09 PM
K9RVM - Rob
I have found real good success with Harmony House for soup and stew bases.

The Red Feather butter is fantastic and keeps for quite a while

My favorite soup base
8:54:20 PM

Excellent stuff. This is great for posting with the audio.
8:54:30 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
cocoa powder stores longer than chocolate
all you need is some added oil, and it subs for baking chocolate
there's a storage trick for comfort food
8:55:03 PM
K9RVM - Rob
I use the Better Than Bouillon as well and I would swear by it.
It's become a staple for me in my cooking.
8:55:30 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
3 tbsp of cocoa powder and 1 tbsp of vegetable oil is the equivalent of 1 oz of baking chocolate
8:55:43 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile
Mmmmmmmm
8:56:16 PM
K9RVM - Rob
I'm thinking of a nice vegetable soup for Field Day......
8:56:56 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
I haven't decided on my potluck item yet
maybe some corn on the cob
or something like that
8:58:28 PM
K9RVM - Rob
I was thinking of my beans, rice and chicken (Prepper) meal. but now I'm thinking about dehydrated vegetable soup...
8:59:22 PM
Ken K7KBJ - Mobile

Sorry I missed the chat session...

With respect to cooking books, I have two heavy boxes of recipe books (from Clay) for barter.  Whatcha got to trade?

Wish I could have listened to Jerry... But no audio feed to record  :P
