I've never made a binder. Intrested in hearing the why fors tho!
8:12:25 PM
TWP
I confess, I have a really minimal set of documents and not in a grab-n-go container.  Working on that...
8:13:18 PM
Ken K7KBJ Mobile
I have to make mine better.
8:13:25 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I have my wallet so I've never really thought I'd need a doc binder.
8:13:32 PM
TWP
Technically, I have a briefcase with my docs.
Not really grab-n-go...
8:14:28 PM
Ken K7KBJ Mobile
But it has a handle!
8:16:28 PM
TWP
Yeah, but I only have two hands and I have two small packs (food, medical) which will keep my hands full.

KG7MZO - Glenda
It's a great place to get more experience, especially in the field
The commitment is up to you.  There are some classes that you would need to take.  Most are online classes but you can get involved and participate while working on those classes
Hey Josh - has the net helped with the why for?
8:36:28 PM
Ken K7KBJ Mobile
Fred, we practice by helping with sporting events. You can ride along to watch us in action.
8:37:06 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Great idea Ken!
8:38:59 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Glenda, it has. I just dont like having my info in multiple places. I check my wallet daily, a binder could go months without a thought. I have trust issues i guess. Lol! Amd as usual jerry you are the man! I will think on it tho.
8:39:59 PM
TWP
Josh, consider a buried cache as one place to keep you docs, a copy anyway.
8:40:30 PM
AC1BN - Fred
All - sounds great. Be aware that I have limited mobility, though. Very very bad back!
8:41:45 PM
TWP
Fred, have you seen Jerry's game cart?  He can pull a lot without back stress.
8:42:28 PM
AC1BN - Fred
I've heard about it, but never see it!
8:42:57 PM
TWP
Al the weight rests on the hips, so low back stress.
8:42:58 PM
Ken K7KBJ Mobile
Josh, in your case, at least put stuff on a thumb drive. Encrypt it for security.  As Rob aaid, it can be problematic at times but at least you might find some way to open the files .
8:43:53 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Josh - updating is something that I struggle with too.  Somethings will get outdated, but the main info will be there. Also, consider encryption for sensitive info
8:44:56 PM
TWP
230gr, dang!  a good man.
8:45:40 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Thanks everyone for the info. I will set my mind to be open to it. I get the need for it,  and we will discuss it.
My condolences jerry.

Thank you, Ken.

Thank you, Glenda.

Thank you both for the respect shown 230gr. I have been friends with him online since the late 90s. We have had regular weekly chats for the last eight years, at least.

Here is the document information I mentioned during the net.

My thoughts on Important Documents:

Important records should be kept in such a way as to be safe in case of fire, flood, earthquake and other disasters and to have available for quick access when needed such as a fire resistant documents case, Zip-lock bags, electronic media in Faraday boxes/pouches, etc. (Be aware, that although keeping copies on electronic media is a very good way to have yet another copy and can make it easy to work with them, you will have to use the media with your own electronic gear. No government agency or private business is going to allow any outside access of any kind to their systems. They will not slip that CD or thumb drive into their computer and pull the data from it, no matter how much you assure them it is safe. It is too big a risk to their systems.)

Keep originals in appropriate places w/copies and/or condensed versions in the various emergency kits including BOBs, BIBs, GHBs, GOOD bags, INCH bags, evacuation kits, hurricane kits, etc.

It is also good to keep a set of copies off-site so they can be retrieved even if you have to leave without anything. Trusted friends, family, records depository, etc.

A binder with full size copies in sheet protectors can be kept for easy update and copying, stored in a fire resistant safe such as your home safe or gun safe.

To make it easy to keep the various sets of copies protected from moisture they can be placed in quality Zip-Lock bags. And if space is a consideration, many copiers have a copy size reduction feature, and many printers can micro print or print multiple pages in small print on a single 8 1/2 x 11 page. If you do make small copies, keep a wallet size Fresnel lens with them.

Types and examples of Important Documents:

Animal/pet records: Ownership papers, vaccinations (including rabies), photographs, veterinarian records, ID tag information, chip information, breed information, registration information, service animal information & ID, Police/search & rescue animal information & ID, etc.

Local Accomodations: Hotels/Motels, family addresses, friends addresses, shelter locations & rules, etc.

I never had a chance to meet him, either. But we Skyped, e-mailed, and phoned. Plus all the back and forth on various forums. Plus he was a major force on the website another friend had where we also did a webcast radio show three nights a week. He was a frequent guest. Sometimes call in, other times as a third co-host. The other friend and I were the hosts. We were talking about it a few days ago. It is truly remarkable how many of the things we discussed, warned people about, and helped develop plans and strategies to deal with them back then, have come about in the time since. Some occurred not long after one of our radio shows. Others just now showing up, not too far off our time table. And 230gr was right in there contributing.

Just my opinion.
