Hey Josh

AC1BN
Hi all!

Re the topic, California is an example of community failure to plan. Their fire prevention could have been much better
8:05:09 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I got nothin for wildfires. I will soak up knowlage today!
8:06:05 PM
AC1BN
Me too!

Last year or two, we've had some serious fires close to Reno. We were advised to be ready to evacuate the apartments and buses were waiting on the street for those without vehicles.
8:07:49 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Wow! They got that close?
8:08:00 PM
TWP
We have our BOB's and additional food packs ready for such a situation.
Yes, we were watching the flames on the mountain side to the west.
8:08:37 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Dang!
8:10:04 PM
TWP
This was mild compared to California, last summer...
8:11:06 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I know when i ran to battle mtn when my truck broke last year i passed 3 fires between fallon and bm.

We've not made any real changes to our plans with respect to wildfire/forest fire, but I think we need more in the case of a community level fire. Our first level bug out destinations may be closed.
Ouch, dumped the keyboard which knocked me out...
out of the chat
8:14:16 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Doesnt show you left. Weird
8:15:10 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
We will be covering BOBs, and evacuations in this series
8:15:11 PM
TWP
It cleared my chat screen and announced that I rejoined the channel... Oh well.
Glenda, good, more info is better
8:18:02 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
Other topics will be defensible space and ember attack prevention and what to do after the fire passes
8:23:21 PM
TWP
We're ion a apartment, third floor, so no defensible space. Our roof is also hard to reach with a water spray from normal hoses. The fire truck pumpers could reach it, but may not be here at the right time. I don't see a good way to prep for this or to address it in case of need.
Plus, if the fire is close enough to be in danger from embers, we would (hopefully) already evaculated.
8:25:54 PM
KG7MZO - Glenda
I think you find the topic on ember attack prevention interesting
8:26:30 PM
Ken K7KBJ
I've learned embers can be a little devil
8:28:32 PM
Josh K7ZIM
I was sitting on my balcony last year, there was a huge fire in cali somewhere when we got all that smoke. As i sat there burned cheatgrass peices were falling on me. All the way from cali. Scared the hexk out of me!
8:29:17 PM
TWP
Josh, how far away was the flame?
I recall the Yosemite fires and smoke in Reno from that
8:30:10 PM
Josh K7ZIM
No clue. It was before the reno fires last year. From cali to me is at least a 4 hr drive.
8:31:04 PM
TWP
Ok, long distance then. Were those burned grass prices still burning or just ash?
8:31:13 PM
Josh K7ZIM
Maybe it was the Yosemite fire. But thats a long way for burned peices of grass to land out here.
Ash and peices of burned grass. No live burning but just the remnants of it.

KG7MZO - Glenda
Here's the link to the survival guide compiled bu Los Angeles County emergency response agencies. It's an excellent resource with some great information. https://topangasurvival.wordpress.com/survival-guide/

Jerry makes a good point about the wet spring and increased fire danger from new growth.

The link Glenda provided in the chat room transcript provided me the opportunity to download the PDF of this guide.
I created a link to this guide on the Information Archive page of our website.

Here is the link: http://www.nnpg.net/OtherStuff/disastersurvivalguide2017complete.pdf

Thanks Glenda. This is a most awesome guide. You need a copy of this.

Thanks Glenda. Thanks Ken.

Sorry I was not able to contribute more, but Iwas hurting as bad as I have in a very long time.

And since this first one was about the new threats, I was able to voice my thoughts and opinions about that.

Really looking forward to the other elements. There are a few new threats, in addition to all the ones already. But, at least, there are a few additional defensive mesures that can be done.

Just my opinion.
