While Puerto Rico may be a good drill to simulate what life is like without power, etc, it has nothing to do with preperation for an EMP

i disagree.  Vehicles were very limited for use and electronics were also limited.  It is about as close as you are going to get until we have an EMP.

No they do not fry your electronics, BUT they sure do destroy the electric grid and thus your electronics become fancy paperworks

If your preps include a generator in preparation for a power failure and your generator has electronics it may well not prevail or address the power failure.

Then plan B is the backup to the generator.  It can be daunting...  Small solar cells, in Faraday cage storage along with backup radio etc.

I would add a set of battery cells, without electrolyte.  They shouldn't need Faraday storage if they are not wired into a system.

We used both trucks and helicopters.  I went on a helicopter to another island to set up tents at a hospital.  That was pretty cool.
