Article - Great Depression Cooking – The Poorman’s Meal

(1/1)

TWP:
This is both a set of recipes and a philosophy lesson on eating with what you can get.

I eat some of these today: Hoover Stew and Spaghetti w/white sauce are easy.

You don't need a specific recipe to cook food which will be eating by hungry people...

I recommend learning to do "scratch" cooking, using simple foods from your prepper stores.

It is better to practice now, than to be forced to learn the hard way... ::)

WolfBrother:
#2 ( 2. Creamed Chipped Beef ) and cold cereal got me thru boot camp.

Very quickly it got where I just couldn't go their eggs or bacon so I started eating cold cereal with fruit.  THEN ONE MORNING I saw the SOS and tried it.  From then on - 4 slices of toast covered OR cold cereal and fruit.

I agree with TWP on the "I recommend learning to do "scratch" cooking, using simple foods from your prepper stores."

owldancer:
When I was young my mom would make SOS and all us kids loved it.

I enjoy cooking from scratch, but the packages of spices do help.
