Ginger experiment; grow your own
« on: July 07, 2017, 07:09:32 PM »
I'm starting an experimental planting in my window sill and will track the results here.

Ginger takes a relatively long time to sprout from rhizome cuttings, up to six weeks.

It is a shallow rooting plant, so you don't need deep pots, my tray is about 6 inches deep, 15in X 24in. and has 4 inches of well aged compost which has been used to grow sweet bell peppers.  The peppers are now done and I'm replanting a set of ginger buds from a package purchased at the 99cent store...

This article has some basic advice on how to do this, if you want to attempt it also:

I will do that.  It will be weeks before I expect to see any result...
