Title: Article - DIY Emergency Survival Food Buckets For Long Term Food Storage

These are only part of what you can do to make your own food buckets.

Be sure to use buckets with good lids, the kind which make a reliable airtight seal AND are food grade..

CAVEAT: I would NOT put "pool shock" (Calcium Hypochlorite) in any bucket with food.  Use a separate, NON-AIRTIGHT bucket for this and DO use moisture absorbing packets in those buckets.  Oxygen absorbers do nothing useful for Calcium Hypochlorite and are a waste of money.  You need to remove any water (moisture) because that will cause the decomposition of this chemical into corrosive chlorine compounds.  These may attack even the plastic of the bucket, so use caution...

All that being said, you still should stock pool shock because it does make a very good chlorine bleach solution.  Just don't store it with foods and don't keep it in a sealed container.

The chlorine gas will corrode many metals if they are close to the container... FYI

Be sure to get the pool shock which contains Calcium Hypochlorite the are some that do not. From treating water to drink and bleaching the sick room floors, it will do the job.

Just remember it will rust through metals.
