This is a good article on growing Cassava.

 It is a starchy root grown in dryer parts of the world.  Nutritionally, it is better than potatoes.

I think it would do well in our area.  Read the article for details on starting and keeping a crop.

Note that it keeps well in the ground.  Frost will kill the stem, so stem cuttings are the recommended
method of propagation.  Read the comments at the end of the article for more information.
