Tracking you through your software
« on: May 31, 2015, 06:58:47 PM »
It seems that many, if not most, commercial software tools are tracking you.

Not just keeping a database of who - what - where but actually reporting it back to "big brother".

Paranoia?  Yes.  But that doesn't mean it isn't happening.

So what to do about this?  Change the way to do things on your computer.

This article discusses a few of the tools used by most computer users.

It describes how they track you and what they report back to the software manufacturer.

The article also suggests ways to stop this.

Some are simple and may be implemented without major changes to your daily routine

Other steps require changing to another brand of software.

For instance, change from Microsoft(r) Office to Open Office ( Libre Office is better, IMNSHO ).

Changing to the TAILS operating system (OS) is also recommended.

The nice thing about TAILS is that you can still run your present OS and just run TAILS from a USB drive or DVD drive.

Please read this article.  I would be happy to discuss implementing changes in your computer system at the next meeting.  You may also send me a PM from this site.
