North Korea claims their new ICBM can hit U.S.
« on: January 09, 2017, 05:18:08 AM »
I think North Korea might find it is no longer as easy to threaten the world as it has been under the klintonistas and the obamanation. It seems most of their weapons systems tests are failures, but they only have to be good once.

So, how can we prep for these situations?

Got plans?

Want to share (within OPSEC limits)?

It is just another nuclear threat. I do not anticipate any changes in my plans. About the only thing I can think of is that North Korea might have relatively dirty devices with a somewhat higher amount of longer half-life elements in the fallout. Still does not mean that much, as if there is any fallout, I do not think needing to avoid an area an extra six months on top of the two or three years it would be too hot anyway is going to be a problem.

Just my opinion.

Jerry, I agree with your assessment of the immediate danger.  This is nothing new.

Long term, our plans need to address how to handle the people leaving a strike area and living with a suddenly hyper alert government, military and police system.

Our own personal plans do include bug-in and bug-out situations, but I confess we are short on long term supplies.

If we had to leave the area, we (again my own immediate friends) would be needing to start almost from zero to build a survivable homestead.  It would be a full year before a farm/garden could be a reliable food source, so the amount of supplies needed at the beginning is large.

We certainly know what we would need for this, but we are NOT there yet.

Well it is high time for us to dust off our fallout shelter and equipment. Planning of going over our Radiological Monitoring class notes and equipment.
We had planned for a cold war silo emptier attack so North Korea would be small potatoes comparatively. I would expect a more surgical attack from the Chinese and/or Russians nowadays anyway. Going to be very tough anyway.

I have a underground root cellar, but the door won't do for protection from radiation and I have a 20' shipping container that is half buried. It won't work without a lot of time and expense to strengthen and finish burying it. Basically, I am still looking for a good shelter. I still need to explore the limestone cliff to see if I can locate the rumored cave.

2' across and about 30' deep. Not as deep as I had been told.

The real unknown is the cistern that was filled in with junk from the burned out farmhouse 20 years ago. I am really tempted , since the lid appears to be a few inches under the grass, to dig it out and see what it would take to empty it and make it into a shelter.

2' across and about 30' deep. Not as deep as I had been told.
...

I'm assuming that the well is rock lined?  If it is stable, good, but if it looks like it wants to cave, then you might look at lining it with a plastic pipe.  These come in 18 - 24 inch diameters and would allow you to draw water even if the rock walls slip.

I've seen these used to line man-ways in mines and they are very sturdy.  A ladder can be bolted to the interior wall if you need access to the bottom.

The well is rocked with Limestone up top and the rest is drilled through Limestone. Before the quakes in Oklahoma that shook this area it was a good well. Now it is basically dry.

So you can now cut sideways and make a shelter!

You might be better off drilling a smaller well, deeper, for water.

1) I don't have the money for a well driller to punch through limestone

2) I don't want the powers that be realize I have a well when I have to apply for a permit.
