I like this vertical axis wind generator design.

It contains a video which may be of help, but the overall design is possible with the exception of the magnetic bearings.
Without those bearing, the unit will make more noise...

A point which I find attractive is that it can be made much less visible, compared to the typical propeller type wind plant.  In fact the whole unit could be hidden inside a larger wind scoop type structure.

Admittedly this will take the skills of a good machinist to construct, but that is not outside the ability of someone who can make farm equipment or assemble furniture.  As the saying goes, RTFM...
