First, No, it is not top-of-the-line medical supplies.  I know that, you know that.  It is not intended to do brain surgery.

IFAK - Individual First Aid Kit

This is an emergency medical kit for less severe injury treatment.  It will handle minor cuts and scrapes.  If you want, sutures can be included, but get trained, ok?

It contains tools which can be used by most people without intensive training (So go get trained!).

The intent is to make survival more likely.

It is cheap and that means you can give everyone in your group a kit.

It goes in your BOB.

First Aid means just that, immediately accessible and applicable medical treatment.  If the wound is severe, you use this kit to stabilize the victim until better treatment can be found.

[EDIT] I CANNOT recommend the use of the digital thermometer because the batteries do not last forever.  Look for liquid crystal thermometer strips or carry a plain old alcohol thermometer (NOT MERCURY).
