There are other websites and resources which tell you how to make soap.  They all work.

However, I found this to be very well detailed and yet simple enough to actually learn something about how to DO IT.

I will point out that this process uses commercially available lye and in a post-SHTF world you will likely be using your own homemade lye (from fire ash).  It means you will need the additional skill of leaching ashes for lye, and the equipment to do that.

DO observe the safety precautions and the warning about NOT USING ALUMINUM...  'nuf said.

Ceramic pots do work for this, but the strong lye does etch the surface over time.  I would still use ceramic pots over stainless steel because of the higher cost for stainless pots.  You can aways make your own ceramic pots, but the stainless steel, if you have it, is more valuable for food processing.
