Making shelter
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:38:45 AM »
This reminded me of the Dog Meadow outing, except that the FS had gone through the area
and eliminated all of the small trees and limbs.  I suppose we could have made a big pile of
pine needles and tunneled under it for shelter...  Bless the FS for making our public lands
prettier...

This works, and it can be warmer than a tent.  If it is raining, some water will make it's way through
but most will be diverted and absorbed before reaching you.  You can always pile more leaves on
top to increase the insulation.   Packing snow on top will give a very good wind and temperature
barrier.  Hanging a fabric door completes the barrier or you can push an additional wall of leaves
into the opening.
