Disclaimer, we don't have kids.  So this is for those who do have children or expect to bug-out with children in the group.  Since factors change, you might find that you need to consider moving with children...

NOTE: the author is discussing children in the age range of 1 to 10 years.   If your kids fall beyond that range, then DO READ it anyway and look for how the advice might be modified to fit your children.

In part one, the author points out the truth that kids will be slower than teenagers and adults and she gives some good benchmarks for planning for slower travel.

DO NOTE that slower speeds means the need for MORE SUPPLIES, primarily food, to stretch over the longer travel time.

One factor is the need for child supervision while traveling and camping.  This will take the effort of one adult or older sibling, full time.  Plan on it...

There are relevant links to reference material on the information used by the author.

Part 2 talks about getting your children to safety.  What to do, how to do it.  What to teach your kids about survival skills.

The "letter in reply" points out that children can be trained for the needed bug-out skills, such as being quiet and walking long distances at younger age.  A good book reference is give in the reply.
