I think I would go with a fire piston, fire bow, fire saw, and char cloth and fatwood tinders for fire making.

Just my opinion.

I have a fire piston, but I really suck at it. I've practiced to the point of it becoming frustrating. I wish I could take a class on use of one.

In my kit, I do have ferro rod, magnesium and Vaseline soaked cotton balls.

Shark Repellent...

I lived on Guam and in Panama as a teenager.  Be careful about Shark Repellents.

This is fact (Unless it's changed in last 10 years).  Sharks are little changed from prehistoric times.  They are the garbage disposal of the oceans.  They eat anything from license plates to each other.

The problem with creating an effective repellent is that even very large sharks have a brain about the size of a golf ball.  They are stupid.  They survive on instinct developed over eons.  There are countless cases of sharks being too stupid to recognize they should react to the repellents that almost all other sharks react to.  Thus, not reacting as other sharks do, they just come and take a bite.

To my knowledge, there has never been a repellent that works on ALL sharks.

My personal shark story...Unfortunately, I came within about 6' of a 7 foot sand shark (not a particularly aggressive species...Well, unless you are about 7 feet from him when he looks terribly aggressive) but about 20 feet below the surface.  I had no protection but remembered that if you yell underwater it scares many (not all) sharks.  My yell did two things.  First, the shark turned slowly and swam away.  Second, it left me with no air 20 feet under the water.  I broke the surface gasping for air and terrified.

That is a great story, thanks for sharing.

Sharks are a very real threat to many people. Did you all see the news clip from the surf contest in South Africa? A surfer went rounds with two Sharks and came out unscathed.

Please tell me I don't need to add Shark attacks to my list of possible SHTF events.  I'm having enough trouble with the list as it is... ;)

Stay away from the ocean, and the major east coast rivers, and you should not have to worry about sharks. Unless Sharknado 1, 2, & 3 become reality.

Just my opinion.
